Job summary

Summa Health System is seeking an RN to join the 5N Acuity Adaptable Unit at the Akron Campus. This PRN role works part-time 24 hours per week, 7:00 am–7:30 pm, providing and coordinating nursing care across patient populations. Candidates must be ADN-educated, with BSN preferred, and hold an Ohio RN license.

ACLS is expected within six weeks for designated units. Experience in critical or step-down care is valued.

Qualifications

Must have full range of motion for patient handling and lifting.
Standing and walking for extended periods.
Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Able to work under stress or irregular hours.
Exposure to infectious disease, body fluids, and other clinical hazards.
Maintain Basic Life Support; ACLS within 6 months if in designated areas.

Responsibilities

Summary

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.

Formal Education Required

Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio

Experience And Training Required

PRN RN’s must have at least one-year recent experience in the area of practice.
One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
Additional related previous experience and/or preparation maybe required for specialty units.

Other Skills, Competencies And Qualifications

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.

Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.
Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; All nurses new to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and maintain current card. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or must be completed within six weeks of hire.

Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (i.e. PALS, NIH, Non-Violet Crisis Intervention, etc.).
