Job summary

Lewiston Public Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to plan and adapt instruction so students with disabilities access grade-level content. You will work in the resource room and with general education staff, delivering specialized instruction, monitoring progress, and managing IEP paperwork and family communication.

The role emphasizes five-day weekly availability, collaboration with colleagues, and adherence to federal/state special education timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education.
• Valid Maine teaching certificate (282).
• Completed criminal history record check required by Maine law.
• Available and able to work 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Plan curriculum, lessons, special education programs, and teaching methods.
• Administer educational testing and monitor student progress.
• Serve as case manager for assigned students and develop IEPs in compliance with IDEA and MUSER.
• Maintain regular contact with students' parents and collaborate with general education staff.
• Supervise ed techs and manage a caseload, paperwork, and timelines.
