Resource Coordinator - Birmingham, AL (REMOTE)

General Summary

Southern Research is seeking a proactive, detail-orientedResource Coordinator to coordinate and optimize resource planning across our preclinical operations, includingLaboratory Animal Resources (LAR), Pathology, Histology, Necropsy, and Bioanalysis. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring operational alignment between master schedule and available talent, equipment, and lab space-empowering our teams to deliver high-quality, compliant research with precision and impact.

This is a critical, cross-functional position supporting both early discovery and IND-enabling research in a regulated (GLP-compliant) environment.

  • Operational Resource Planning

    • Serve as the primary coordinator for resource coordinating across key operational groups: LAR, necropsy, histology, pathology, and bioanalysis.
    • Maintain an up-to-date resourcing plan for each group to ensure accurate alignment of personnel and capabilities with ongoing and upcoming studies that align with the master study schedule.
    • Anticipate demand fluctuations, collaborating with team leads, manager, supervisor, and directors to reallocate staff or adjust workloads as needed.


  • Workforce and Capacity Management

    • Serve as a backup for Master Scheduler, reporting to Director of Client Services
    • Partner with lab managers and scientific leadership to monitor team capacity and forecast upcoming resource constraints on a resource level.
    • Balance workloads across teams, ensuring adequate coverage while minimizing downtime and preventing resource strain.
    • Track availability for full-time staff, part-time support, and contract resources.


  • Study and Timeline Coordination

    • Support study kickoffs by validating that appropriate personnel, space, and equipment are scheduled in alignment with project timelines.
    • Participate in operational meetings and cross-functional reviews to flag potential resourcing issues in advance.


  • Reporting and Communication

    • Collaborate with Master Scheduler to maintain resource specific dashboards and weekly reports on resource utilization and availability.
    • Provide leadership with data-driven insights to inform staffing decisions and operational planning.
    • Foster a culture of communication and collaboration between operational groups.


Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Life Sciences, Business, Operations Management); equivalent experience considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a resource management, laboratory operations, or project coordination role within research or CRO setting.
  • Familiarity with preclinical workflows and regulated environments (GLP, AAALAC, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across scientific and operational teams.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in IND-enabling or toxicology study operations.
  • Experience with LIMS, scheduling tools, or enterprise resource management systems.
  • PMP, CRPM, or related certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with electronic study management tools (e.g., MS Project, MS Power BI, Prism, Study Scheduler).
