Job summary

Sasha Bruce Youthwork is seeking a Cook to prepare nutritious meals for youth and staff at our residential homes in the DC region. You will order groceries within program budgets and deliver meals to assigned facilities, ensuring high standards of quality and safety.

The role requires 3 years of hands-on cooking experience, a valid Food Handler's Permit, and the ability to handle physical duties and multi-task in a dynamic setting with youth.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years of hands-on cooking experience.
  • Valid Food Handler's Permit.
  • Must have the ability to stand, lift, and manage equipment weighing 20–25 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass various background and clearance checks.
  • Must have and maintain a current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Detail oriented; ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks breakfast and dinner for up to 15 youth, including special diets.
  • Ensures ingredients and final products are fresh.
  • Follows recipes with precise measuring and mixing.
  • Cooks using baking, grilling, steaming and boiling techniques.
  • Present and garnish final dishes; occasionally serve meals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety per health regulations; monitor equipment.
