Job summary

Harris County Juvenile Probation Department seeks a Youth Development Officer to provide direct supervision and safety for youth in a 24-hour residential facility. You will guide activities, promote positive behavior, and support rehabilitation goals.

Role requires engagement in crisis de-escalation, daily living skills coaching, and accurate reporting. Weekend shifts are required; the environment is emotionally demanding and teamwork‑oriented.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic computer skills (MS Office, Internet).
• Ability to work in emotionally demanding environments.
• Must be able to work weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide care, safety, and supervision of youth in a residential facility.
• De-escalate crisis situations using verbal techniques.
• Assist youth with daily living skills and maintain living areas.
• Complete reports and logs documenting youth behavior and progress.
• Monitor youth behavior and document interventions in the system.
• Communicate noteworthy information to supervisors and treatment teams.
• Escort youth within the facility and off-site as needed.
• Operate or supervise departmental vehicles.
