Job summary

VOA GNY is seeking a Residential Counselor to deliver wellness and recovery-oriented case management at Theodora House in Fanwood, NJ. The role includes supervision, crisis intervention, and coordinating services for residents recently discharged from a state psychiatric hospital.

The position requires a relevant degree or license, a valid driver’s license, and at least one year of related experience. Benefits are extensive and include health, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mental health or related discipline, RN license, or four years of combined college/work experience.
• At least one year of related work or life experience if the degree does not meet requirements; RN with two years experience, or high school diploma with four years related experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site supervision and support to service recipient.
• Communicate observations and information about the service recipient to the program manager, RN and treatment team.
• Supervise, organize and support recreational and/or socialization activities.
• Transport and/or assist service recipient with accessing transportation to appointments.
• Provide residential counseling and crisis intervention (but not including crisis intervention counseling).
• Participate in the development of the individual service plan.
• Participate in individual service coordination activities, including vocational and educational services.
• Document observations information and services provided to the service recipient in progress notes.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment in the facility, including assisting with meal preparation and activities of daily living as needed by the service recipient.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
