Job summary

OneQuest Health seeks a Residential Treatment Specialist for 2nd or 3rd shift. Opportunities include full-time, part-time, or weekend work with a base wage of $17.00–$18.00 per hour and a $1 shift differential for 2nd/3rd shifts.

Raises of $0.50/hour after 6 months and $0.25/hour after 1 year are provided. Responsibilities include direct daily care for children with trauma-related behavioral health needs, modeling Sanctuary principles, and coordinating with the treatment team.

Residential Treatment Specialist - 2nd & 3rd SHIFT ONLY

Full Time, Part Time or Weekends

  • CURRENT OPENINGS FOR 2nd SHIFT 3PM-11PM & 3rd shift 10pm-8am Weekends are required.

Base wage of $17.00 per hour Level 1
Base wage of $18.00 per hour Level 2

Plus - $1 shift differential for 2nd & 3rd shift. Automatic increase of fifty cents per hour of base wage after 6 months, and twenty-five cents after 1 year.

Position Overview

The Residential Treatment Specialist is responsible for the daily direct care and supervision of children in residence suffering from childhood trauma with resulting behavioral health issues.

The Residential Treatment Specialist ensures children's basic life, educational and emotional needs are provided.

He or she acts as a role model and mentor for the residents, demonstrating appropriate social and relationship building skills using a trauma informed care model called Sanctuary using the 7 Commitments of the Sanctuary Model -open communication, democracy, non-violence, social learning, social responsibility, growth and change.

OneQuest Health is the only agency in Kentucky currently certified by the Sanctuary Institute to use this model, and is also the first agency in Kentucky to receive All Children All Families Innovator status from the Human Rights Campaign in LGBTQ competencies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Level 1 Residential Treatment Specialist
  • A High School diploma is required. Bachelor's degree in a human service field preferred.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older, and have one year demonstrated experience with youth. Previous experience with adolescents in a residential setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to form and maintain nurturing relationships with emotionally disturbed children.
  • Ability to complete written documentation.
  • Must have a current driver's license and driver's insurance. Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work.
  • Demonstrate proven sensitivity to the various cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Children's Home clients and staff.
  • Must be willing to spend meal period eating with the clients on a regular basis.
Level 2 Residential Treatment Specialist
  • 1. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred. Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services. Will consider other degrees in fields that emphasize communication skills, problem solving skills, understanding and interacting with others of diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of group and individual behaviors.
  • OR High School Degree Required PLUS 2 or more years relevant experience preferably in Mental/Behavioral Health or Developmental Disabilities, may consider experience in other social services.
  • OR High School Degree with Associates Degree or 2 Years of College Level Course Work, must be in the fields stated above PLUS one year of relevant experience as stated above.
JOB DUTIES
Level 1 & 2
  • Complete Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training.
  • Complete the Therapeutic Individualized Phases to Success (TIPS) training
  • Be alert and respond therapeutically to aggressive behavior exhibited by residents, including diversion into other activities, intensive teaching, physical assist or other disciplinary/control procedures as outlined in the policy.
  • Teach the principals of the Therapeutic Individualized Phases to Success (TIPS) and maintain all needed points and other documentations.
  • Provide direct care supervision of children during all aspects of the daily routine, monitor school progress, assist with homework/tutoring, and provide supervision for special events.
  • Perform all duties of primary role, activity role, and/or crisis role as assigned while on shift.
  • Monitor and manage children in crisis situations by providing for safety and emotional needs using TIPS, de-escalation, intensive teaching techniques and SCM as trained.
  • Dispense all medications as directed per prescription and document per agency policy (duty of primary role).
  • Document incident reports accurately and timely as required by policy.
  • Cooperate with other staff members in achieving goals and treatment philosophies of the Home. Participate fully and positively as a member of the treatment team while following directions of Residential Treatment Specialist Supervisor.
  • Attend team meetings, staff meetings, in-service training and other meetings as requested by your supervisor.
  • Assist newly hired staff members in learning proper procedures, routines and agency policies.
  • Perform duties surrounding transportation of residents to community appointments and activities as requested by the Residential Treatment Specialist Supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility to maintain physical plant and ensure cottages, building, grounds, and vehicles are kept in good condition. Complete maintenance requests and give to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Prepare meals as directed or assist residents in cooking special meals. Staff are required to spend their meal period eating with the clients on a regular basis.
  • Aid in supervising the children's vocational work as requested by your supervisor and cottage milieu.
  • Maintains professionalism when acting as agency liaison during interactions with residents' families, parents and caregivers.
  • Third shift: Must be awake at all times and conduct 15 minute room checks. Maintain the cleanliness of all working areas including keeping up with laundry for residents.
  • Attend required trainings as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Residential Treatment Specialist Supervisor
Level 2 Additional Duties
  • Must work first or second shift
  • Must attend Team Meetings (may be virtual) including Treatment Team, Cottage Team, and Core Team
  • 12 hours of personal development online training (outside of required trainings) per year
  • Onboarding duties for new hires including responsibility for assisting in applicant observations, and new hire skills checklist.
  • No more than 2 unplanned absences per quarter (time off not requested at least 1 week in advance)
  • No more than 1 Medication error per quarter
  • Demonstrated willingness to work some overtime filling in for vacant shifts
  • Demonstrated above average verbal de-escalation skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative approach job duties to promoting teamwork
  • Receipt of “convince to stay, would be difficult to replace” performance rating.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, kneel, squat, and hold objects or carry.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and sometimes move and/or lift up to 100 pounds in order to Utilize Safe Crisis Management Techniques.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The environment consists of indoor and outdoor activities with different temperatures.
  • Cleaning and using cleaning materials, including chemicals are a demand of this position.

OneQuest Health has a 2nd & 3rd shift pay differential as well as increases in base pay after 6 months, and one year, and a $1,000 retention bonus if in good standing at 1 year anniversary date.
