Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority (NeMCMHA) in Alpena, MI is seeking a Direct Care Worker/Residential Training Worker to support individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs in group homes and community settings.

You will help with daily living tasks, transportation, medication distribution and documentation, and plan activities in line with treatment plans. We value compassion, inclusion, and growth, with a supportive team and benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Knowledge of developmental disabilities and mental health issues is helpful.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Lived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use is valued.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Team-oriented mindset and a heart for service.

Responsibilities

• Supporting individuals in daily living tasks such as laundry, meal prep, and grocery shopping
• Providing transportation in agency-owned vehicles
• Assisting with medication distribution and documentation
• Facilitating individual and small group activities based on treatment plans
• Participating in team meetings and person-centered planning
• Maintaining accurate records, including progress notes and incident reports
• Creating a safe, welcoming, and consistent living environment
• Practicing gentle teaching and trauma-informed care
