Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority (NeMCMHA) is seeking a Direct Care Worker to support individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs in residential and community settings. In this part-time, non-exempt role you will assist with daily living tasks, transportation, and activities, while collaborating with a supportive team to promote dignity, independence, and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Knowledge of developmental disabilities and mental health issues is helpful.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Lived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use is valued.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Team-oriented mindset and a heart for service.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to individuals in group homes and community environments.
• Assist with daily living tasks (laundry, meal prep, grocery shopping).
• Provide transportation in agency-owned vehicles.
• Assist with medication distribution and documentation.
• Facilitate individual and small group activities per treatment plans.
• Participate in team meetings and person-centered planning.
• Maintain accurate records, including progress notes and incident reports.
• Create a safe, welcoming and consistent living environment.
• Practice gentle teaching and trauma-informed care.
