Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota seeks a Residential Supervisor to lead and support residential staff, ensuring safe, high-quality care for children in our residential program.

You will supervise a team, participate in safety trainings, manage on-call coverage, and coordinate transport while upholding our commitment to compassionate, ethical service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social science or two years postsecondary + one year experience working with children
• Safe Crisis Management training required
• Willingness to undergo background checks for criminal convictions involving children
• Requires valid auto-insurance and driver’s license or ability to obtain one with approved status

Responsibilities

• Provide direction, evaluation, and support to residential staff.
• Ensure physical intervention for residents and staff protection if necessary.
• Transport residents as needed and maintain health and safety standards.
• Attend in-service trainings, staff meetings, and supervisor meetings.
• Cover on-call duties as assigned.

A Day in the life of a Residential Supervisor:

• Provide direction, evaluation, and support to residential staff.
• Ensure physical intervention for residents and staff protection if necessary.

• Cover on-call duties as assigned.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral or social science field preferred; or two years of postsecondary education (minimum of 60 semester credits) and one year of experience working with children; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• This position requires successful completion of Safe Crisis Management training.
• Willingness to submit to record checks to detect criminal convictions of behavior harmful towards children, spousal abuse, distributing drugs or sex crimes.
• Requires valid auto-insurance, a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one with approved driver status.
