Job summary

The Drexel Way champions Team Member ownership and a hands-on approach to residential framing design. The Structural Designer converts architectural plans into precise CAD floor layouts, sizes tall wall components, and produces prescriptive wind-bracing docs while supporting field troubleshooting and rapid 48-hour resolutions.

As part of the Structural Design team, you will ensure buildable plans, mentor teammates, and maintain close collaboration with builders and inspectors to uphold Drexel’s

Qualifications

• Experience in structural design, CAD drafting, or residential construction is a plus.
• Background working in CAD layout software and structural engineering tools will speed training.
• Willingness to learn residential construction practices, structural framing components, and navigating building code books.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with Quarterbacks, builders, and inspectors.
• High urgency to resolve field issues within 48 hours and willingness to perform job-site visits.

Responsibilities

• Utilize iS design software to generate architectural structural floor layouts and engineered drawings.
• Size headers, glulams, I-joists, flush beams, tall wall systems, and load-bearing components.
• Interpret prescriptive wind-bracing documentation to meet municipal codes.
• Serve as primary technical troubleshooter, delivering inspector-ready documentation within 48 hours.
• Review contractor framing challenges, assist with red-tag inspection issues, and visit job-sites as needed.
• Maintain an active design log to hit due dates and communicate with QBs and builders.
• Mentor and train new design team members as role mastery grows.
