Job summary

Lefferts is seeking a Project Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for its residential real estate development projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in development accounting, construction loan draws, job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting throughout the development lifecycle.

You will manage project accounting activities, lead monthly closes, review contractor invoices, and coordinate loan draws with lenders while providing financial oversight

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience required.
• 5-10 years of relevant accounting and finance experience within residential real estate development.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or development‑related financial management preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting procedures related to construction and capital projects.
• Experience with job costing, capital project budgeting, and project financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all project accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost accounting, compliance, financial reporting, and month‑end close.
• Lead the monthly close process for assigned projects, including review and approval of financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and schedules.
• Oversee job cost accounting and ensure project costs are recorded, classified and capitalized, and reconciled to budgets.
• Review contractor invoices, pay apps, lien waivers, change orders, and draw schedules for accuracy.
• Manage construction loan draws and coordinate with lenders and stakeholders to ensure timely funding.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and budget‑to‑actual variance analyses; identify risks and cost overruns.
• Monitor project cash flow and funding requirements; coordinate debt and equity needs with leadership.
• Provide financial oversight across development, construction, and asset management lifecycles.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls; identify improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate with lenders, investors, auditors, tax advisors, contractors, and project partners.
