Job summary

Southwestern Remodeling in Wichita, KS is seeking a Residential Project Designer/Drafter to transform client ideas into detailed CAD plans for interior and exterior remodeling projects in the Wichita area.

You will conduct site measurements, manage material sourcing and cabinet budgeting, navigate building permits, and collaborate with clients and staff to ensure a smooth transition from concept to construction.

Job Description:

Southwestern Remodeling is seeking a Residential Project Designer/Drafter to transform client ideas into detailed, constructible plans for both interior and exterior remodeling projects across the Wichita area. Working as a bridge between design, sales, and field production, this role is responsible for conducting site measurements, producing accurate 20/20 CAD designs, managing material sourcing and cabinet budgeting, navigating building permits, and collaborating directly with clients and staff to ensure every project transitions seamlessly from concept to construction.

Responsibilities:

• Site visits to procure accurate measurements for Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings to assist in the sales and production of a wide array of project categories
• Producing detailed and accurate Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings
• Assisting sales staff during the design and sales process in one-on-one client meetings
• Work with sales staff and clients through the process of final design and color and texture selection
• Develop cabinet budgets for estimating, then prepare and place final cabinet orders
• Source and order finish materials, including tile, cabinet hardware, plumbing fixtures, and accessories
• Preparing building permits and monitoring the approval process
• Participating in on-site pre-construction meetings to assist in the sales-to-production handoff

Qualifications:

• Fluent in 20/20 CAD software required (additional CAD experience a plus)
• Functional knowledge of building codes
• Knowledge of functional interior room design and layout
• Ability to take a wide array of projects from site measure to design to field handoff, including room additions, large-scale outdoor living projects, decks and roof structures, interior reconfigurations, kitchens, baths, and basement finishings
• Strong communication skills as a liaison between the sales staff, the client, and the field staff

Experience:

• Experience in structural design and function (roof tie-ins, truss design, and structural components of residential construction)
• Experience in the building permit application process
• Experience in material selection, cabinet budgeting, and ordering
