Residential Insurance Inspector – Independent Contractor (1099)

Signature Companies is seeking experienced residential insurance inspectors to perform interior and high‑value dwelling inspections for property owners across Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a contract (1099) position. Inspectors are independent contractors paid per completed report, with payments issued monthly.

Responsibilities

• Travel to homeowner properties and conduct interior insurance inspections and high‑value dwelling assessments.
• Use a digital camera and measuring wheel to take photos and measurements, noting issues for underwriting.
• Complete and submit an online report within 21 days of the visit; reports are reviewed for quality before forwarding to underwriting staff.
• Schedule appointments, drive to sites, and write up reports from home using a Windows‑based PC.
• Determine accurate replacement cost of each home, document unique construction and architectural features, identify underwriting concerns, and make recommendations on loss prevention.

Requirements

• Minimum two years of comparable experience (e.g., home inspector). Prior underwriting experience preferred.
• Reliable transportation and a late‑model car.
• Digital camera, measuring wheel or similar device, smartphone, tablet, and personal computer.
• High‑speed internet access and excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Computer competencies in a Windows environment and internet use required.
• BA or BS degree preferred. CPCU or IIA certification preferred.
• Loss control and construction experience preferred.
• Must be able to turn around high‑quality work quickly; strong organizational skills required.
• Background investigation, including a criminal record check and potentially a drug screen.
