Job description

Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being. Education

Education minimum requirement: Associate degree or 60 semester hours of study in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.

Related education provides knowledge, skills, and abilities as identified to supervise children (grades Kindergarten thru 12th grade) in a residential setting, to assist with daily activities (e.g., making beds, daily hygiene, housekeeping, etc.), to ensure safety and well- being of students, and to provide supplemental educational assistance (e.g., assist with homework, encouraging good manners, assisting with money handling, etc.).

Applicable academic disciplines include fields related to working with children, such as child development, education, behavioral sciences, and cultural studies. Introductory subject knowledge obtained through lower-level undergraduate courses (e.g., English 101, Calculus, American History, Native American Studies, Sociology 101, Chemistry 201, etc.) can provide the knowledge to assist with homework and the skill for personal interactions.

Education - Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Experience

Experience minimum requirement: One (1) year of related experience that demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to supervise children.

Qualifying experience should be in the same line of work or a similar job involving working with school children.

Physical Requirement

There is normal standing, walking in classroom/activity room situations and similar movements around the dormitory or school. May be required to participate in outdoor and off-site activities. Required to go up and down stairs in a dormitory setting. Must have good vision and hearing but can be corrected with hearing aid and/or glasses.
