STAR, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Norwalk, CT, with more than 70 years of experience providing support to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families. Our services are centered around helping the people we support live fulfilling, meaningful lives while promoting inclusion, independence, and freedom of choice.
As a Residential Instructor, you will play an important role in helping the individuals we support live as independently and actively as possible. Your responsibilities may include assisting with daily living activities such as medication administration, meal preparation, personal care, transportation to medical appointments and day programs, and participation in community activities.
You will also help implement individualized behavioral and support plans. Through teaching, encouragement, and positive mentoring, you will help individuals develop new skills and work toward their personal goals.
Every person is different, and you will learn about their interests, preferences, and abilities so you can provide meaningful support. You may accompany individuals on community outings, recreational activities, and other experiences that promote greater participation and independence.
Residential Instructors are also responsible for recognizing and reporting health and safety concerns and maintaining complete, accurate, and timely documentation.
