Job summary

Old Dominion University seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to oversee staff in university residence halls and apartments, ensuring safety, security, and timely completion of work orders. The role requires strong supervisory skills and expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.

In-person reporting is required, and staff may be called upon during university closings. Successful candidates will manage inventory, coordinate preventive maintenance, and uphold university guidelines

Qualifications

• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and repairs across structural, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Proficiency with trade tools and equipment.
• Working knowledge of computers and university programs (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes).
• Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurable record.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Training in structural, electrical, HVAC and plumbing or equivalent work experience.
• Significant supervisory experience in dormitories, apartments, motels or hotels; optional trade license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff performing maintenance of apartment complexes.
• Ensure security and compliance with university and state guidelines.
• Maintain inventory of furnishings and equipment.
• Manage the work order program and document all related activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on structural, electrical, mechanical/HVAC, and plumbing components.
