Job summary

Old Dominion University seeks a maintenance supervisor to lead the preventive maintenance team across HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. You will supervise field staff, schedule work, and ensure equipment is maintained as designed in an institutional setting.

The role requires several years of relevant supervisory experience. A master license in a mechanical trade and asbestos removal background are noted; position is in-person and essential during emergencies.

Provide field supervision and leadership to the preventivemaintenance staff in performing maintenance a verity of industrialmechanical equipment at an institutional setting. Using experienceof the trades ( HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing) and manufacturerecommended to ensure equipment is maintained properly and asdesigned. To perform inspections of equipment and make minorrepairs or adjustments and needed to equipment and providetechnical guidance to staff as needed to ensure equipment ismaintained properly. This position is designated “essentialpersonnel” for emergency closings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent working knowledge of overall general maintenance in theHVAC, Electrical and plumbing fields. Considerable experience insupervision of various trades. Knowledgeable of trade hand toolsused in testing electrical devices and aligning shafts and pumps,etc. Have the ability to manage multiple tasks such as setting workschedule, ordering material and providing assistance tostaff.

Special Licenses, Registration or Certification

Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.

Level and Type of Experience

Considerable knowledge in one or more of the following trades HVAC,Electrical and /or Plumbing). Several years experience inperforming preventive maintenance and / or repairs on lightcommercial mechanical equipment at an institutional setting.Several years experience in supervision.

Additional Considerations

Several years of supervision experience in the mechanical trade and a master license in one of the mechanical trades. Training or considerable background experience in preventive maintenance and mechanical maintenance repair in HVAC and/or one or more tradessuch as the electrical or plumbing fields. Background in asbestosremoval.

Conditions of Employment

In-person reporting position. Position not eligible for telework under any circumstances. This position is designated as sensitive. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate. Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate

Salary commensurate with education and experience
