The Residential Driver will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate residential/recycling collection trucks, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect waste and recyclables on assigned routes.
- Load waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the vehicle.
- Operate equipment to compact trash into the vehicle.
- Perform safety inspections and report issues.
- Maintain route quality standards and safety compliance.
- Keep the vehicle clean and identify prohibited waste items.
- Manage helpers if applicable and work with supervisors to improve routing.
- Follow all safety and operational procedures, including wearing PPE at all times.
- Report accidents or incidents immediately.
- Maintain accurate records and inventory of containers and parts.
- Attend safety and branch meetings and perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- At least one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certification.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria according to company standards.
- Ability to safely operate trucks and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance.
- Ability to maneuver trucks in tight spaces and recognize unacceptable waste.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and operate in loud environments.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
- Visual and physical capacity to handle the demands of the job.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, weather extremes, mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work primarily outdoors, often far from the branch location, in traffic and high places.
