Job summary

Area Substance Abuse Council in Cedar Rapids, IA, is seeking a full-time Residential Counselor to join our treatment team, helping patients learn to live safe, healthy lives free from substance use. The role involves individual counseling, group sessions, intakes, treatment plans, and coordination with community agencies.

A CADC or license is preferred; CADC must be obtained within 18 months of hire; a valid driver’s license and background check are required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Human Services, Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
• Masters degree and/or CADC/CADC license encouraged; CADC within 18 months required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling to patients and facilitate group sessions.
• Conduct intakes and assessments and develop treatment plans for all assigned patients.
• Submit paperwork and meet job responsibility deadlines as assigned.
• Coordinate patient involvement with other community agencies.
• Help to plan and implement recreational activities for residential patients.
• Act as the on-call counselor on a rotating basis and assist the overall residential team as needed.
• Provide urinalysis monitoring on an as needed basis.
• Maintain strict confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA and 42CFR.
