The American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT seeks a Residential Counselor for 1st shift to supervise and support deaf and hard of hearing students during school and after-hours. The role requires teamwork, behavior management, and the ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Responsibilities include planning activities, promoting personal growth, assisting with mobility, and participating in trainings such as PMT/CPR. A supportive benefits package accompanies the position.

Formación

• Experience working with children and youth with mental health and traumatic backgrounds in a residential setting preferred.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team setting.
• Ability to anticipate issues and re-direct or de-escalate behavior.
• Ability to communicate with students using American Sign Language (ASL).
• PMT/CPR Certification or willingness to secure.

Responsabilidades

• Supervise deaf and hard of hearing children and youth during school and/or after-hours.
• Plan and carry out activities to promote personal and social growth.
• Encourage hygiene, attire, and nutrition; assist with mobility.
• Support participation in extra-curricular activities.
• Implement PBIS and participate in staff conferences and trainings.
