Job summary

The American School for the Deaf seeks a Residential Counselor for the 2nd shift at the Main Campus in West Hartford, CT. This full-time, union role supports students during school and after hours, including meal supervision and program activities.

Supervision is under the Dean of Students and Student Support Services Coordinators. Primary duties include supervising deaf and hard-of-hearing students, promoting growth, PBIS implementation, and collaboration with residential and teaching staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise emotionally/behaviorally-disordered deaf and hard of hearing children and youth during in- or out-of-school hours, including meals.
  • Plan and carry out activities to promote personal and social growth.
  • Encourage good personal hygiene and attire; assist with mobility as needed.
  • Encourage participation in extracurricular activities.
  • Implement Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS).
  • Participate in staff conferences and trainings; assist in PMT workshops.
