Job summary

Mountain Youth Academy in Mountain City, Tennessee, part of Universal Health Services, is seeking a Residential Counselor. You will provide support and structure to youths receiving behavioral health treatment, creating a safe, respectful environment and collaborating with the clinical team.

Roles include supervising residents, supporting daily routines, documenting care, and encouraging engagement in therapy.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with one year of health care experience required.
  • Verbal de-escalation skills to assist residents in crisis situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a team and respond to crises.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate support and supervision to patients/residents throughout their treatment experience.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive environment.
  • Build trusting and respectful relationships with individuals in our care.
  • Monitor patient behavior and communicate changes to the clinical team.
  • Assist with daily activities, routines, and therapeutic programming.
  • Encourage participation in treatment and reinforce positive behaviors.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
  • Follow safety, confidentiality, and behavioral health policies.

Responsibilities

Mountain Youth Academy is nestled in Mountain City, Tennessee which is conveniently located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients.

We are looking for a Residential Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide support, encouragement, and structure to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment while helping create a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment.

Residential Counselor – Non-Degreed and Degreed

High School Diploma or GED required.

Bachelor’s degree with one year of health care experience required.

Full-time or PRN positions available.

Without prior experience earn between $18-22 an hour.

  • Degrees increase the base rate.
  • Increased rates for those with prior work experience in the medical, behavioral mental healthcare field, working with children and miliary services.
  • Shift Differentials: $2-5
  • Frequent opportunity for overtime

  • Work Full Time as few as 3 days per week.
  • Selection of 8, 12, or 16 / hour shifts
  • Available full-time weekend shifts at only 36 hours
