Job summary

Arrow Child & Family Ministries is seeking a Residential Counselor to provide daily care and supervision of residents, promoting safety and supportive engagement within a trauma-informed program. Responsibilities include supervising activities, teaching life skills, documenting care, and coordinating with clinical staff to support residents’ goals.

Requirements: HS diploma or GED; 1+ year with children/families; Bachelor’s preferred; RCYCP licensure within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Engage in a trauma-informed model to ensure safety for residents.
• Supervise residents during activities and promote positive social behavior.
• Teach life skills to help residents develop interpersonal skills and navigate surroundings.
• Complete shift documentation and incident reporting as required.
• Assist clinical teams in treatment planning and participate in groups as needed.
• Escort residents to groups, meals, and activities; monitor conduct.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and communicate information for treatment.

The Residential Counselor is responsible for daily care and supervision of residents while in care.

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Engage in a trauma informed model of programming to provide physical and emotional safety for residents.
• Supervise residents in various activities in order to observe and promote positive social behavior or affect changes in their social behavior. Teaches rules, manners, practices for interpersonal relationships, personal care, etc.
• Model and teach life skills to program residents that will help them develop interpersonal relationships, social skills and how to navigate through their internal and external surroundings.
• Complete shift documentation including but not limited to residential case notes, incident reports, and resident inventory; also required to complete documentation requested by clinical or medical staff such as sleep logs and behavior checklists.
• Observe methods/techniques of clinical staff and participate in treatment of residents in interaction, limit setting, and implementation of treatment plans, also responsible for co‑ facilitation and involvement in clinical groups.
• Assignments include but are not limited to: escorting residents to groups, interviews, meetings, mealtime, recreation, educational activities, medical appointments, and participate in supervision and instruction.
• Maintain developmental age‑appropriate rules and expectations, including proper conduct of residents during work, recreation, and education.
• Administer and record medication as ordered by physician or delegating nurse.
• Provide supervision for resident participation in the canine and equine programs to include direct care for the animals when necessary.
• Work to prevent inappropriate behaviors in the residential area.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Maintain professional boundaries between self and residents to ensure appropriateness in the working relationship.
• Communicate all appropriate information internally and externally to facilitate the treatment of the resident.
• Must be flexible and available to work various shifts on multiple days of the week.
• Attend trainings and meetings as required.
• Review client files on a periodic basis to become familiar with the specific, individualized needs and goals of the residents in their care.
• Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, company policy, and regulatory agency standards.
• May be required to drive vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete company vehicle training.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and at least one (1) year of experience working with children and families, preferably in the child welfare industry. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must be able to obtain RCYCP licensure within 180 days of employment.
