Job description

Salary: Basic salary of £25,563.20 with the potential to earn up to £32,283.20 with sleep-in shifts.

We are seeking a dynamic and inspirational Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our established Residential Team at Bayview. You will work in one of our family-feel children’s homes in Heysham or rural North Lancaster, with a maximum of four young people per home.

Our service requires individuals dedicated to guiding young people aged 8-18 with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties towards success. You will support in creating a safe, secure, homely, and positive environment to improve their lives. All our homes are rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted, and we expect staff to contribute to maintaining and enhancing this reputation.

It is required that you undertake and complete your Diploma Level 3 in Working with Children & Young People or Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Apprenticeship within 2 years, if you do not already possess this qualification.

You must also hold a full UK driving license.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To carry out duties as a Childcare Worker and Key Worker, exceeding the National Standards laid down by Ofsted.
  • To ensure the highest standard of childcare for residents.
  • To systematically improve the lives of all young people in the Home.
  • To build and maintain positive relationships with families, friends, and external agencies as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • To foster a culture of trust and mutual respect within the Home.

The Provision of Childcare

  • To develop high-quality care plans for each young person.
  • To adhere to all legal requirements, Ofsted standards, and company policies at all times.
  • To communicate feedback from residents, families, and relevant parties to the management team.
  • To keep the Home clean, safe, and secure.
  • To build trusting relationships with children, understanding their backgrounds and needs.
  • To be approachable, friendly, and professional, creating an inclusive environment.
  • To actively supervise and ensure the safety of children, recognizing signs of distress and intervening appropriately.
  • To manage and de-escalate conflicts in line with policies.
  • To communicate issues and concerns proactively to management.
  • To carry out risk assessments for activities and ensure safety.
  • To engage actively with children in activities, akin to a caring parent.
  • To discharge Key Worker responsibilities, treating children as individuals.
  • To maintain regular communication with families and friends of the children.
  • To contribute to reviews and ensure all policies and paperwork are diligently completed.
  • To ensure food standards are met and assist with cooking and shopping as needed.
