Job summary

The City of Gresham seeks a certified Residential Building Inspector (Building Inspector 1) to perform residential plan review and inspections across structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical disciplines. This full-time role includes Oregon PERS retirement and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.

Qualified candidates will hold Oregon Residential Structural Inspector (CAS) and Oregon Residential Plans Examiner (CAX) at hire, possess a valid driver’s license, and demonstrate

Qualifications

• Certified residential building inspector required at hire.
• Oregon CAS and CAX certifications required at hire.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and existing residential buildings for compliance with construction, safety, and city codes.
• Notify contractors and homeowners of violations and follow up to ensure corrections.
• Issue stop-work orders for non-compliance and determine required repairs or replacement.
• Investigate health and safety complaints and violations.
• Conduct field inspections and on-site plan review; provide code interpretation to contractors and homeowners.
• Perform residential plan review for construction, alteration, and repair projects.
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports and compliance correspondence.
• Represent the City to the public and other agencies; stay current on state and local codes.
