Job summary

The City of Gresham is hiring a Structural Mechanical Building Inspector (Building Inspector 2) to perform residential and commercial inspections in the Portland metro area. The role includes Oregon PERS retirement and full medical, dental, and vision benefits.

A certified inspector with code knowledge and strong customer service will help keep Gresham’s buildings safe. Oregon Structural Inspector A-Level certification is required at hire.

Qualifications

• Oregon Structural Inspector A-Level (SIA) certification required at hire.
• Associate’s degree or two years of college coursework in Building Inspection Technology or related field, plus 3–6 years of building construction experience.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and existing residential, commercial, and accessory buildings for compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Notify contractors/Homeowners of violations and follow up for corrections.
• Issue stop-work orders for non-compliance and determine required repairs or replacement.
• Investigate health and safety complaints and violations.
• Conduct field inspections and on-site plan review; provide code interpretation.
• Read/interpret plans and engineering drawings against work in progress.
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports and correspondence.
• Represent the City to the public and other agencies; stay current on codes.
