Job summary

City of Gresham is seeking a Residential Building Inspector (Building Inspector 1) to review plans and inspect residential structures across multiple disciplines. The role emphasizes collaborative teamwork, quality customer service, and strong code knowledge to keep buildings safe.

Required are Oregon CAS and CAX certifications at hire, a valid driver’s license, and successful completion of Oregon Inspector certifications within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Two years of vocational/technical training in building construction or equivalent experience.
• Three to six years of related education, training and experience in building construction.
• Oregon Residential Structural Inspector (CAS) certification required at hire.
• Oregon Residential Plans Examiner (CAX) certification required at hire.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect residential buildings and structures for compliance with codes and City ordinances.
• Notify contractors/homeowners of violations and verify corrections.
• Issue stop-work orders for non-compliance and determine required repairs.
• Investigate health and safety complaints and violations.
• Conduct field inspections and on-site plan reviews; provide code interpretations.
