Job summary

Spartanburg Housing, a long-standing public housing agency serving Spartanburg, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to keep aging properties safe and livable for residents. The role focuses on hands-on maintenance across buildings, systems, and common areas.

You will perform electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC-related tasks, enter work orders in the agency’s computer programs, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure timely repairs and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in skilled maintenance.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• HVAC knowledge required; HVAC certification is a plus.
• Ability to enter work orders into the agency's computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Conducts planned and corrective maintenance to building surfaces, fixtures, systems, and equipment.
• Completes electrical and plumbing system maintenance.
• Performs carpentry, masonry, drywall repairs and related tasks.
• Patches surfaces and prepares for painting, sanding, masking and finishing.
• Performs general labor to keep properties safe and sanitary.
• Enters work orders into agency computer systems.
• Participates in emergency stand-by/call-back rotation.
• Repairs and/or replaces HVAC controls and related components.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Conducts required planned and corrective maintenance to building surfaces, fixtures, systems, and equipment.
• Completes electrical and plumbing system planned maintenance.
• Completes carpentry related duties, masonry work, and repairs sheet rock.
• Performs minor paint jobs and other related tasks as: preparing surfaces for painting by patching plaster holes, sanding, scraping, or masking.
• Performs necessary manual labor to keep housing projects in a decent, safe, and sanitary condition including picking up trash and debris.
• Ability to enter work orders into the agency's computer programs.
• Participates in the emergency stand-by/call back rotation schedule.
• Performs mechanical tasks as repairing and/or replacing space temperature and HVAC equipment controls.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED, or trade/vocational school certification; with a minimum of 3 years of experience in skilled trade, building/facility maintenance or other related experience in a skilled maintenance capacity. Any combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the requirements of the position.

Must have general working knowledge of all maintenance crafts, including basic HVAC knowledge. HVAC certified is a plus.
