Job summary

VIAVI Solutions Inc. seeks a seasoned Resident Engineer to provide on-site technical support for key customers. You will ensure optimal performance of Viavi network testing and monitoring solutions within the customer's environment, acting as the primary technical contact.

You will troubleshoot complex issues, deploy and maintain Viavi hardware/software, deliver training, and collaborate with customer teams on network evolution and roadmaps. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field.
• 5+ years in network engineering, operations, or technical support roles.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF and data center/core/access networks.
• Hands-on experience with Viavi tools and network testing/monitoring.
• CCNA/CCNP/JNCIS/JNCIP certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical contact for Viavi products at the customer site.
• Provide proactive and reactive support, troubleshooting and fault isolation.
• Collaborate with customer teams on network architecture and requirements.
• Assist with deployment, configuration, integration, and maintenance of Viavi solutions.

• Act as the primary technical point of contact for Viavi products and solutions at the customer site.
• Provide proactive and reactive technical support, including troubleshooting, fault isolation, and resolution for complex network issues involving Viavi equipment.
• Collaborate with customer teams to understand their network architecture, operational processes, and business requirements.
• Assist with the deployment, configuration, integration, and ongoing maintenance of Viavi hardware and software solutions.
• Conduct training sessions and knowledge transfer to customer personnel on Viavi products and best practices.
• Generate regular reports on system performance, health, and utilization, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
• Participate in customer planning meetings and provide technical input on future network evolution and Viavi product roadmaps.
• Escalate complex issues to Viavi's engineering and product management teams, acting as a liaison between the customer and internal departments.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering timely, high-quality technical support and building strong relationships.
• Adhere to Viavi's and the customer's security and operational policies and procedures.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in network engineering, operations, or technical support roles, preferably with experience in telecommunications service providers or large enterprises.
• In-depth understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) and network architectures (e.g., Data Center, Core Network, Access Network).
• Strong hands‑on experience with network testing and monitoring tools, ideally with Viavi Solutions products (e.g., Observer, ONMS, Fusion, CellAdvisor).
• Proficiency in analyzing network traffic, interpreting trace files, and identifying performance bottlenecks.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced customer‑facing environment.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, JNCIP) are a plus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for training or customer-related activities if required.

Job Posting Pay Range:

77,700 to 144,300
