Job summary

TYLin is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer (Structures) to lead field inspections and oversee bridge and other transportation structures construction on major projects. You will liaise with the Project Manager, contractors, and site staff to ensure plans and specifications are faithfully implemented with rigorous attention to detail.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related field, a P.E.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or closely‑related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • P.E. license or CCM credential required; 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as Structures Representative on at least two bridge projects ($20M+).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee structures construction work to plans and specs at project sites.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for project activities.
  • Provide written progress reports and technical insights to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate tasks with contractors and project team for smooth workflow.
  • Manage project documentation and review contractor pay estimates and submittals.
  • Lead field inspections and mentor site staff; enforce safety rules.

Job Summary TYLin's Construction Management team is looking for a Senior Resident Engineer (Structures) to be a part of our exciting journey in shaping the future of transportation infrastructure. Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do: As a Senior Resident Engineer, you will be our ambassador at project sites, ensuring the highest standards of quality and precision. Your mission is to oversee structures construction work, making sure it aligns seamlessly with plans and specifications. You'll work independently on structures construction items while collaborating closely with the Project Manager and other site representatives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Field Expertise: Conduct thorough inspections of all falsework elements. Ensure that project specifications are faithfully executed, and plans are brought to life with meticulous attention to detail. Prepare detailed cost estimates for various project activities, contributing to cost-effective solutions.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Keep everyone in the loop by providing written progress reports, technical insights, and addressing special issues promptly. Work hand‑in‑hand with contractors to coordinate tasks and ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Financial Oversight and Documentation: Manage project documentation, ensuring that contract compliance is maintained at all times. Review contractor pay estimates and submittals with a keen eye for accuracy.
  • Leadership: Be a mentor and trainer, shaping the next generation of construction professionals. Lead field inspection and support staff, sharing your expertise and fostering growth.
  • Safety Advocate: Uphold and enforce construction safety rules and regulations for a secure work environment.
The Qualifications We Seek Are:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction manager or closely‑related field.
  • Master's preferred.
  • P.E. license or CCM credential required and at least 15+ years of experience in with the concepts and practices with complex bridge construction.
  • Previous experience as a Structures Representative on at least two bridge projects with a minimum construction value of $20 million.
  • Strong ability to write effective and concise reviews comments, and reports.
  • Must be able to communicate and liaise well with Contractors and other team members to effectively resolve field issues.
  • Previous construction management experience for Caltrans projects, or projects that had Caltrans oversight, is strongly preferred.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $185,000– $ 255,000 annually for this position and local market.
