Job summary

The LiRo Group seeks a Resident Engineer for an on-site role in New York City. You will act as the client’s on-site representative on the Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 Project, overseeing daily construction activities and ensuring safety, schedule, and budget adherence.

Strong leadership, communication, and coordination with contractors, designers, regulators, and clients are essential. A PE license and 7–10 years of relevant experience are preferred for this critical PMT function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• PE license required.
• 7–10 years of construction supervision experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site construction activities and field operations.
• Ensure compliance with design specs, schedules, budgets and safety standards.

• Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress payments.
• Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports and photographs.

Project Overview:

The Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 Project is a major infrastructure undertaking to extend the Q Line service in Manhattan. The project will be delivered through multiple, overlapping design and construction contracts. The Project Management Consultant (PMC) will be a vital part of an integrated Project Management Team (PMT) responsible for administering, managing, and ensuring the successful completion of the project safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Position Summary:

The Resident Engineer (RE) serves as the on-site representative of the program management team, responsible for overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring project compliance with design specifications, schedules, budgets, and safety standards. The RE plays a vital role in coordinating between contractors, consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies, ensuring successful delivery of engineering and construction projects under the broader Program Management scope.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the client’s on-site representative during construction.
• Monitor daily construction activities for quality assurance and compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
• Coordinate with design engineers, construction contractors, inspectors, and program management staff.
• Conduct regular site inspections and lead field meetings with stakeholders.
• Review and approve contractor submittals, RFIs, change orders, and progress payments.
• Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, logs, as-builts, and photographs.
• Identify and mitigate construction-related risks or delays; elevate critical issues when necessary.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA and project-specific requirements.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare status reports for senior management and client stakeholders.
• Ensure environmental, permitting, and regulatory compliance on-site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Minimum [7-10] years of experience in construction supervision, site engineering, or resident engineering.
• Experience with large-scale or multi-site program management environments preferred.
• Familiarity with project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, Design- Build).
• Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)

• The range provided is the salary that the Firm in good faith believes at the time of this posting is willing to pay for the advertised position.
