Job summary

UNICO Engineering, Inc. is a fast-growing firm providing construction management, land surveying and systems integration services. We are seeking a Resident Engineer to act as owner’s representative on transportation projects in Southern California and to lead client and contractor meetings.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in the industry, be a California-registered PE, and possess strong communication and leadership abilities to direct field activities and project teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Construction Management, Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
• Registered Professional Engineer in California is required.
• 10+ years of industry experience in a related discipline.
• 5 years of managing construction projects or acting as resident engineer for a public agency.

Responsibilities

• Act as owner’s representative and lead client and contractor meetings.
• Review plans/specifications and ensure compliance with documents.
• Provide project documentation: letters, RFIs, submittals, change orders.
• Oversee field inspection, supervise inspection teams, and QA/QC.
• Direct and supervise field construction activities and office engineering.

Responsibilities

The Resident Engineer will be responsible for successful completion of construction projects. Specific responsibilities include being an owner’s representative, attending and running client and contractor meetings, reviewing plans and specifications and ensuring compliance with documents, providing project documentation in the form of letters, RFI/Submittal responses, change orders, etc., overseeing field inspection, supervising project inspection teams, and providing technical guidance and quality assurance, maintaining project controls including cost and schedule management. Must have experience working in a team environment, and have the ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals, public involvement and regulatory agencies.

Ideal Candidate

• Experience leading local, state and federally funded transportation contracts for projects located in Southern California.
• 8+ years relevant industry experience, familiar with transportation, transit or operational facilities type projects.
• Types of infrastructure projects include civil improvements, structural facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, underground utilities, earthwork, TOD, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Requirements

• BS in Construction Management, Civil, or Structural Engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer in California
• 10+ years of industry experience in a related discipline (as a design engineer, field engineer, construction engineer, project engineer, engineering manager, or military construction engineer)
• 5 years managing construction projects or working as a resident engineer for a public agency
• Possess a valid driver's license and clear DMV record
• Must have the ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
