Job summary

UNICO Engineering in California is seeking a Resident Engineer to serve as owner's representative on transportation and related projects. You will attend client and contractor meetings, review plans and specifications, and ensure compliance with project documents.

You will provide project documentation, oversee field inspection, supervise inspection teams, and support cost and schedule control. The role requires clear communication, teamwork, and the ability to direct staff, liaise with clients,

Qualifications

• BS in Construction Management, Civil, or Structural Engineering is required.
• Registered Professional Engineer in California is required.
• 10+ years of industry experience in related discipline (design/field/engineering management) is required.
• 5 years managing construction projects or as a resident engineer for a public agency is required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean DMV record.

Responsibilities

• Attend and run client and contractor meetings as owner’s representative.
• Review plans and specifications and ensure compliance with documents.
• Provide project documentation (letters, RFIs, submittals, change orders).
• Oversee field inspection and supervise project inspection teams.
• Provide technical guidance and quality assurance; maintain cost and schedule controls.
• Direct and supervise field construction activities, office engineering, inspection, and staff; liaise with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities:

The Resident Engineer will be responsible for successful completion of construction projects. Specific responsibilities include being an owner’s representative, attending and running client and contractor meetings, reviewing plans and specifications and ensuring compliance with documents, providing project documentation in the form of letters, RFI/Submittal responses, change orders, etc., overseeing field inspection, supervising project inspection teams, and providing technical guidance and quality assurance, maintaining project controls including cost and schedule management. Must have experience working in a team environment, and have the ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals, public involvement and regulatory agencies.

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience leading local, state and federally funded transportation contracts for projects located in Northern California.
• 8+ years relevant industry experience, familiar with transportation, transit or operational facilities type projects.
• Types of infrastructure projects include civil improvements, structural facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, underground utilities, earthwork, TOD, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
