Job summary

Itera Mobility Engineering seeks a Resident Engineer to support a key automotive customer at their technical center in Auburn Hills, MI. The role interfaces between the customer and global engineering teams from RFQ to post-SOP, coordinating across Systems, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and Quality groups.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in customer-facing automotive roles, strong communication, and experience with issue-tracking tools. On-site work is required at the customer location.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a Resident Engineer or similar customer-facing role in automotive.
  • Experience with automotive OEM engineering organizations or technical centers.
  • 2+ years in automotive validation or product development preferred.
  • Experience with issue-tracking and project management tools (JIRA/Redmine/RTC).
  • Experience with automotive electronic products and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary local technical interface between customer and engineering teams.
  • Support full lifecycle activities from RFQ through SOP and post-SOP.
  • Lead or support technical discussions, reviews, and negotiations with the customer.
  • Coordinate with Systems, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Validation, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Program Management, and Sales.
  • Provide regular status reports and drive issue resolution with appropriate tracking systems.
  • Participate in program reviews and escalation meetings.
  • Ensure customer requirements are clearly communicated to internal teams.

Job description

Our company is looking for a Resident Engineer to support a key automotive customer at their technical center in Auburn Hills, MI.

The Resident Engineer will serve as the primary technical interface between the customer and the company's global engineering and program teams. The position will support activities from RFQ through product development, validation, launch, and post-SOP support as required.

The ideal candidate will have strong automotive engineering experience, excellent customer-facing skills, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams in a fast-paced development environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary local technical interface between the customer and the company's engineering organization.
  • Support customer activities throughout the complete product development lifecycle, from RFQ through SOP and post-SOP.
  • Participate in internal and customer-facing technical, program, quality, and development meetings.
  • Coordinate with global R&D and cross-functional teams, including Systems, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Validation, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Program Management, and Sales.
  • Support on-site customer development, testing, validation, and issue-resolution activities.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, open issues, and action plans to the customer and internal management.
  • Coordinate the investigation and resolution of customer-reported issues using appropriate issue-tracking systems.
  • Lead or support technical discussions, reviews, and negotiations with the customer.
  • Participate in program reviews, development milestones, gate reviews, and escalation meetings.
  • Ensure customer requirements and expectations are clearly communicated to the appropriate internal engineering teams.
  • Support root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for technical issues.
  • Provide regular reporting on program status, technical risks, open issues, and customer concerns.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to technical proposals and product development activities.
  • Work closely with both local and global engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of customer requirements.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in a Resident Engineer, Customer Engineer, or similar customer-facing engineering role within the automotive industry.
  • Experience working directly with an automotive OEM engineering organization or technical center.
  • Strong understanding of automotive product development processes, milestones, and gate reviews.
  • Experience working with OEM engineering systems, processes, and issue-tracking tools.
  • 2+ years of automotive validation and/or product development experience preferred.
  • Experience with issue-tracking and project management tools such as JIRA, Redmine, IBM RTC, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of automotive validation requirements and development processes across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience developing automotive electronic products such as displays, infotainment systems, ECUs, BCMs, or other vehicle electronic systems.
  • Experience working with global automotive customers and engineering teams across North America, Europe, and Asia.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to work on-site at the customer location as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience supporting an automotive OEM at a customer technical center.
  • Experience with automotive electronics and/or infotainment products.
  • Experience with OEM-specific development and validation processes.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing engineering or technical project management role.
