  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and Basic First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.

Part Time: 20 hours a week: mostly evenings (but must have flexible schedule for other shifts potentially)
Job Summary: The Resident Engagement Coordinator supports residents' well-being and adjustment to their living environment by coordinating and delivering meaningful physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and nutritional engagement opportunities. The position recognizes each resident's individuality, abilities, preferences, dignity, and overall well-being.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of resident engagement programs in accordance with established department standards, residents' assessed needs, preferences, and abilities.
  • Post daily announcements and promptly communicate activity schedules and changes; actively encourage resident participation.
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of the monthly resident newsletter and activity calendar.
  • Drive a JKV vehicle, van, or bus for resident outings and appointments as scheduled and authorized.
  • Coordinate and assist with on-site and off-site social engagement, including clubs, committees, community events, worship services, and other group activities.
  • Coordinate and assist with intellectual engagement, including card and board games, bingo, billiards, educational programs, museum visits, classes, book or movie discussions, and opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Coordinate and assist with physical engagement, including walking, exercise groups, swimming, shuffleboard, horseshoes, woodworking, and other appropriate activities; collaborate with rehabilitation or home health providers when appropriate.
  • Coordinate and assist with nutritional engagement, including cooking, baking, food tastings, grocery outings, nutrition education, and sensory-based food activities.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized resident wellness and engagement programs.
  • Assist with Resident Council meetings and respond appropriately to resident and family needs, concerns, and requests for support.
  • Support the welcoming of new residents, introductions, social connections, and adjustment to the community.
  • Recognize resident birthdays, anniversaries, Resident of the Month, and other accomplishments.
  • Take photographs of approved events and maintain department photographs, displays, or scrapbooks in an organized manner while following privacy requirements.
  • Maintain resident engagement programming in the supervisor's absence and communicate significant issues to the appropriate leader.
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with receptionist, dining room, volunteer program, and other community duties as assigned.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of assigned community vehicles and report safety or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Promote the John Knox Village mission, values, reputation, and service standards in interactions with residents, families, employees, volunteers, and community contacts.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with applicable JKV policies, procedures, infection-control practices, and safety requirements.
  • Report to work or otherwise respond as assigned during an emergency or natural disaster, which may include altered shifts, receiving evacuees, or evacuating with residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed primarily in assisted living common areas and resident apartments and may also occur outdoors or at off-site community locations, retail establishments, restaurants, parks, and event venues.
  • Work may involve use of JKV automobiles and multi-passenger vehicles, including a car, van, or bus.
  • The position requires frequent interaction with older adults, including residents living with dementia or other cognitive impairment. Behaviors may be unpredictable and may include agitation, confusion, verbal expressions, or physical aggression.
  • The employee must demonstrate safe work practices through appropriate awareness, judgment, communication, and action.
Educational, Physical, and Other Requirements:
  • Two years of experience in an assisted living community or similar environment preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable computer applications and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must obtain required activity and dementia-related certification within 60 days of hire, if applicable to the position and location.
  • Valid driver's license and authorization to operate assigned JKV vehicles within 60 days of hire; must maintain an acceptable driving record and meet applicable insurance requirements.
  • CPR and Basic First Aid certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained thereafter, as required.
  • Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements include frequent use of arms, hands, fingers, and legs; reaching, pushing, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, talking, seeing, and hearing; and occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds for distances up to 30 yards and occasionally lift and/or carry 15 pounds or more for distances up to 30 yards. The employee may be required to support or assist a resident's body weight using approved techniques and equipment.
  • For the safety and security of residents and patients, employees must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in English, the language most universally used by the resident and employee population.
  • Must maintain a professional, respectful, friendly demeanor with residents, family members, guests, volunteers, and staff at all times.
