Bethesda House of Schenectady, Inc. is seeking a Part-time Resident Assistant for the Lighthouse Residence in Schenectady. You will support residents with daily living skills and ensure a safe, respectful environment during evening weekend hours.

Responsibilities include rounds, maintaining logs, assisting with personal care and activities, basic maintenance, and coordinating care with the team; background checks are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associate's degree preferred.
  • Experience providing services to individuals with chronic medical/behavioral health issues and/or substance abuse history.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and data entry ability.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to lift 40 pounds; able to work weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine rounds and update communication log; address issues as needed.
  • Maintain accurate reports including daily logs, medication logs, and incident reports.
  • Assist residents with living skills and activities; support hygiene and personal items.
  • Attend to maintenance, housekeeping, lawn tasks and garden duties as scheduled.
  • Engage with Veterans in the agency’s Transitional Housing program.

Job description

Our teams work to address each individual on a holistic level so they feel heard, respected, and safe in our care.
We offer hands-on help to address chronic homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, disability, and systematic poverty by offering innovative solutions and proactive services to the most vulnerable in Schenectady County.
Our Residential Programs are staffed 24/7. Our Resident Assistants are responsible for supporting residents by assisting with essential living skills and activities while ensuring a safe and healthy living environment and upholding the dignity and respect of each individual. This position is located at our Lighthouse Residence in Schenectady.

Schedule/Hours: Part—time, Sat & Sun, 4 pm – 12 am.
Pay: $16.50/hr.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine rounds and update communication log and address issues as needed
  • Maintain accurate and legible reports and records including, but not limited to:
    • Daily Communication logs
    • Medication logs
    • Incident reports
  • Assist residents with living skills such as, but not limited to:
    • Recreational games with an educational component (i.e. scrabble, word search)
    • Personal hygiene- ensure appropriate items such as soap, toothpaste, etc. are available and used by residents
    • Securing personal items such as medications, valuables, etc
    • Attending to the resident garden
  • Attend to daily maintenance and upkeep of residence and grounds as outlined in the shift schedule (i.e., general housekeeping, lawn mowing, snow removal, etc.)
  • Engage with Veterans in the agency’s Transitional Housing program,
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in human servicesor related field preferred
  • Experience providing services to individuals with chronic medical conditions, behavioral health issues and/or substance abuse history
  • Knowledge of local agencies and programs serving homeless and low-income populations is helpful
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid computer and data entry skills
  • Collaborative and solutions-focused team member
  • Skilled in conflict resolution with a professional, positive demeanor - able to set priorities, coordinate care plans, and adapt in fast-paced environments
  • Resourcefuland proactive with strong planning, time management, and organizational skills
  • Must have reliable transportation with the ability to work assigned shift regularly
  • Ability to work hours beyond the normally scheduled work hours preferred
  • Ability to climb stairs, bend, and lift 40 pounds
