Job description

The Resident Assistance Specialist plays a critical role in supporting residents who are experiencing financial hardship and are at risk of losing housing. This position works directly with residents to identify solutions that help them remain housed by coordinating rental assistance resources, developing payment plans, and navigating eviction prevention processes. The ideal candidate is compassionate, resourceful, and experienced in property management and social service coordination.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Work one-on-one with residents who are unable to pay rent to assess needs and identify viable solutions.
  • Source, coordinate, and maintain relationships with local, state, and nonprofit agencies that provide rental assistance.
  • Assist residents in applying for rental assistance programs and follow up on application status.
  • Develop and manage payment plans in collaboration with residents and property management.
  • Educate residents on their options and responsibilities while working toward housing stability.
  • Collaborate with property management teams to prevent evictions whenever possible.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to assistance efforts and outcomes.
  • Act as a liaison between residents, management, and assistance organization.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor with residents and coworkers.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in property management.
  • Working knowledge of the eviction process and tenant–landlord regulations.
  • Familiarity with rental assistance programs, community resources, and social service agencies.
  • Established relationships with assistance organizations preferred.
  • Background in social services, housing advocacy, or a related field.
  • Compassionate, impartial, and professional when working with residents in difficult situations.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Comfortable working in high-stress or emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software is required.
  • Experience with Resman and Yardi property management software is preferred.
  • This role involves frequent interaction with residents and community partners and requires a strong commitment to housing stability and resident support.
