Job summary

Dartmouth Health is seeking a Per Diem Nursing Assistant to support Harvest Hill residents with activities of daily living, maintain records, and participate in activities and events. You will work flexible shifts including holidays and weekends, ensuring compassionate care and safety for residents.

Responsibilities include assisting with dressing, bathing, hygiene, mobility, meals, and documenting incidents.

Qualifications

• Must be able to think, act, and intervene independently in routine and emergency situations.
• Must be able to relate to residents and staff in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including Holidays and weekends.
• Must be willing to learn.
• Must be organized and perform duties with minimum errors.
• Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, mobility devices and safe transfer.
• Observe and report changes in residents' physical and mental condition.
• Plan and complete duties with minimal direction from supervisor.
• Work collaboratively with peers and other team members.
• Use tactful, diplomatic communication in sensitive situations.
• Follow up with staff, residents, or others regarding complaints or concerns.
• Assist with dining, personal laundry, recreation activities, and activity programs.
• Document resident incidents and maintain resident records.
• Attend staff meetings and orient new residents and staff.

POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical Activity: Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Upper Extremity: Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
  • Upper Extremity: Must be able to walk four miles daily.
  • Push/Pull/Lift/Carry: Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability in order to cope with the physical, mental and emotional stress of the position.

PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

• Position Objective
  • To assist the residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help. To foster residents' independence and freedom of choice at all times.
• Performance Expectation
  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living to include dressing and undressing, bathing, personal hygiene, mobility devices including monitoring of safe transfer and ambulation techniques, and care of ADL devices such as eye glasses, contact lenses and hearing aids.
  • Observes and reports changes in residents' physical and mental condition.
  • Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor.
  • Works collaboratively with peers and other team members.
  • Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations.
  • Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other off-campus visitors.
  • Maintains all certifications required for employment.
  • Copies special paperwork or forms.
  • Prepares and maintains resident records.
  • Assist residents to the dining room or serves trays in apartment as requested.
  • Provide and/or assist with personal laundry when needed.
  • Participate and assist with recreation activities as needed.
  • Documents resident's incidents.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge regarding Lifeline and PHB system, able to initiate problem solving if needed.
  • Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Assists in orienting new residents and staff to the facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with activity programs at Harvest Hill: ensuring that residents are reminded and assisted to the activity as needed. To actively participate in the activity to enhance the experience for the resident.
  • Assist with setup and clean up, and to accompany residents at events or field trips as needed.
