Job summary

The Salvation Army is hiring a Resident Advisor for the Wilmington Emergency Housing Residence. The role ensures the safety and well-being of residents, assists with immediate needs, and supports smooth shelter operations.

Shifts include 8am–4pm or 4pm–12am, with Saturday/Sunday PT or 4pm–12am weekday options. Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, strong communication, and the ability to obtain required clearances.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and with groups with good judgement and interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding and appreciation for The Salvation Army mission.
  • Ability to obtain clearance under the Biden Act and Child Protection Act.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the office phone in a professional, business-like manner.
  • Write down messages for residents and place them in mailboxes.
  • Walk through each floor for a visual inspection every 45 minutes.
  • Attend to and report emergencies as they occur.
  • Report suspected or observed child abuse to Program Director.
  • Ensure residents sign in and out when entering/leaving.
  • Check resident keys in and out at intake.
  • Read and maintain a shift log of pertinent activities.
  • Maintain mail records and place mail in mail slots.
  • Serve meals on posted times (breakfast, lunch, dinner, evening snack).
  • Complete the Meal Count form for all participating children.
  • Assist with laundry: wash, dry, fold, store.
  • Assign residents chores.
  • Report emergencies or problems to the Program Director.
  • Attend Salvation Army staff meetings as required.

TITLE: Resident Advisor DEPARTMENT: Wilmington Emergency Housing ResidenceREPORTS TO: Director of Emergency HousingAVAILABILITY: ImmediateSCHEDULE: Full Time and Part Time Positions Available; 8am to 4pm or 4pm to 12am, Saturdays and Sundays (PT); 4pm to 12am Monday - Friday, evening or weekend meetings scheduled as required

SALARY: $15.00 per hour; Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

POSITION: The function of the Resident Advisor is to ensure the security and well-being of the residents, assist residents with their immediate needs, and to help ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.

DUTIES:

  • Answer the office phone in a professional, business-like manner.
  • Write down messages for residents and place them in their mailboxes.
  • Walk through each floor of the building for a visual inspection every 45 minutes.
  • Attend to and report emergency needs as they occur.
  • Report any suspected or observed child abuse to Program Director.
  • Ensure that residents sign in and out as they enter/leave the building.
  • Check resident keys in and out of the intake office
  • Read and maintain a shift log recording all pertinent activities that occur on the shift.
  • Keep a record of all resident mail received at the shelter and place mail in mail slots.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening snack at the posted time
  • Complete the Meal Count form for all children who participate in breakfast, dinner and evening snack.
  • Assist with laundry - wash, dry, fold and store in linen closet.
  • Ensure that residents are assigned chores
  • Report all emergencies or problems to the Program Director.
  • Attend all Salvation Army Staff meetings as required.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to work independently, work well with groups and be able to demonstrate good judgement and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain clearance required by the Joseph R. Biden III and the Child Protection Act.
