Resident Activities Coordinator (Healthcare)

Do you have strong observation and communication skills with an ability to modify activities and instructions for a variety of skill levels?

As a Resident Activities Coordinator for Homeland Center, you will be contributing to a culture of care by helping our residents remain physically and cognitively active within a skilled nursing setting.

This opening is a full-time opening.

As the Resident Activities Coordinator, you would be responsible for providing individual and group activities, as well as organizing and implementing events and programs geared toward residents with various ability levels and activity preferences, including those with Alzheimer's and/or Dementia. You would complete regular interviews and/or assessments of residents to determine their recreational, social, and therapeutic needs.

Resident Activities Coordinator Responsibilities include:

Assist with setting up and implementing resident activities.
Complete all charting and documentation related to the provision of activities for the associated groups in a timely manner.
Remind nursing staff of scheduled activities and residents who wish to participate.
Assist with transport of residents to the activity area.
Follow instructions for activities, observe individual resident participation, and monitor responses during the activity.
Escort residents back to their living areas at the conclusion of the activity.
Notify nursing staff and complete documentation if resident behaviors suggest medical issues.
Interact appropriately and effectively in one-to-one activities based on the resident's strengths and limitations.
Monitor individual cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial impairments. Record responses to sensory stimulation or other types of activities.
Chaperone residents during scheduled activities away from the facility grounds.
Maintain a pleasant, upbeat, engaging, and cheerful environment within the nursing home.
Help set up, take down, and store seasonal decorations.
Assist residents in displaying calendars, pictures, cards, or other mementos in their rooms.
Read mail to residents as needed.
Organize the desk area, activities office, and activity closets.
Participate in facility-wide special activities, such as dress-up days and special observances.
Assist residents with relaxation techniques, including deep breathing, concentration, and other activities to reduce stress, aggression, and tension.
Accompany residents on outings such as ball games, sightseeing, or picnics to help them become aware of available recreational resources.


Requirements include:
Education and Experience:

Associate's degree, or High School diploma or GED plus 2-3yrs of experience.
Two years of experience working with seniors in a skilled care facility.
Minimum of two years of experience with performing and/or developing dementia related activities.
Prior experience in group socialization or recreational programs preferred, but not required.
NCCAP Activities Certification a plus, but not required.
Personality style that is energetic, personable, positive, enthusiastic, creative, and imaginative.
Ability to communicate intentions and directions to residents and co-workers.
An active listener/empathetic.
Strong motivational skills to positively influence resident participation.
Must be, or able to become, proficient in the use of electronic documentation including, but not limited to, PointClickCare.
Valid PA Driver's License (Class C), with no major violations in the past three (3) years.
Ability to perform the physical tasks required in this type of role.
Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations relating to recreational services within a long-term care facility.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and exert 50 pounds of force.
Ability to safely operate the facility transport van and bus.
Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and stoop as needed.
