Pay Schedule I, Grade 19, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Department of Recreation and Parks, Recreation Services.

Job Purpose

Under close supervision, responsible for the direct leadership of a variety of programs, activities, and special events. Assists with all aspects of the production of crops and provides care to livestock.

Examples of Essential Job Duties
  • Assists in creating, planning, implementing, scheduling, promoting, and coordinating a variety of programs, activities, and special events in a heavily programmed park setting, both indoor and outdoor.
  • Plans and leads diversified programs and activities in agriculture, nature, cooking, special events, camps, crafts, and gardening.
  • Recruits, trains, and coordinates the work of part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Meets with local residents to determine recreational needs.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure safety and proper functioning.
  • Enters programs and permits into the registration software: CivicRec.
  • Work hours vary week to week, including weekends and seasonally.
  • Operates and maintains farm equipment such as tractors, arena groomers, plows, planters, and harvesters.
  • Uses large farm equipment, small-motorized tools, and performs general farm maintenance.
  • Cares for livestock including feeding, watering, and maintaining enclosures.
  • Monitors animal health and maintains records.
  • Develops educational exhibits and interacts with visitors.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; plus two years of experience in related fields such as recreation, education, or similar.

  • Knowledge of educational programs, exhibits, and entertainment.
  • Knowledge of recreational programming principles.
  • Knowledge of agricultural education principles.
  • Knowledge of first aid.
  • Skill in farming, dramatics, storytelling, games, nature study, music, or crafts.
  • Ability to operate farm equipment and care for livestock.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage volunteers and supervise staff.
  • Ability to plan and organize recreation programs.
  • Ability to establish good community relationships.
Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver's license (noncommercial class C Maryland license) required at application.
