Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an Assistant Director of Residence Life to lead the Residence Life Office and six on-campus halls, directing 24/7 staffing, safety, and student engagement for over 3,200 residents.

You will guide hiring and development for Residence Life staff, coordinate with Academic Initiatives and Care & Peer Support, manage conduct processes with CSSA, and drive assessment of student satisfaction while upholding policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Counseling or a related field is required.
• Experience in student housing or residence life is strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership and crisis management skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provides primary leadership and management for the day-to-day operations of the Residence Life Office and the Residence Halls, including 24/7 staffing coverage.
• Collaborates on hiring, training, and development for Residence Life Coordinators and Graduate Assistants.
• Oversees staff recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations.
• Assists with emergency response and crisis follow-up for students in residence halls.
• Maintains communication with housing and facilities teams to plan administrative tasks and safety checks.
• Coordinates with CSSA on student conduct and hearings.
• Coordinates assessment to understand on-campus satisfaction and communicates findings.
• Leads the Residential Advisory Council and recruits resident participation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
