Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham invites applications for an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-RESIDENCE LIFE to lead the Residence Life program across six on-campus residence halls, supporting a community of over 3,200 students. This role emphasizes a residential curricular approach, student development, and cross-department collaboration.

Responsibilities include day-to-day office operations, coordinating staff, safety and crisis response, and facilitating student leadership through RAC and CSSA

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Counseling or a related field and three (3) years of related experience is required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
• Ability to exercise independent judgement with limited supervision.
• Experience in recruiting, training, and evaluating the work performance of new professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provides primary leadership and management for the day-to-day operations of the Residence Life Office and the Residence Halls.
• Collaborates with housing operations on overnight security coverage through a 3rd party contract.
• Supervises the Graduate Assistant for Residence Life Operations.
• Hires, trains, supervises, and develops Residence Life Coordinators and Graduate Assistants.
• Manages student staff selection, recruitment, and placement processes.
• Assists with emergency response to students in crisis and on-call rotation.
• Coordinates assessment to understand on-campus satisfaction and communicate findings.
• Facilitates the Residential Advisory Council (RAC) and coordinates meetings.
