Job summary

Residence Life Coordinator
Embry-Riddle - Daytona Beach, FL

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now recruiting for a Residence Life Coordinator for the Daytona Beach campus. The Residence Life Coordinator position shares in the responsibility for overall direction of a comprehensive, auxiliary housing program serving approximately 2,900 students. Primary focus of this position is to coordinate the student staff in one or more residence halls, provide counseling and conflict management support to residential students, and encourage residential education and academic support through the Department’s "Living-Learning" philosophy.

Staff Supervision & Staff Development
  • Provide supervision and guidance to student staff, including Resident Advisors (RAs)/Senior Resident Advisors (SRAs) on a daily basis, as needed, with regard to student development and intervention strategies.
  • Provide counseling where necessary for students' individual and group issues, problems, or concerns.
  • Meet weekly with SRAs to provide guidance, assess needs, and evaluate concerns for each of their facilities and student residents. Provide guidance and supervision in regard to job performance.
  • Meet bi-weekly with RAs to provide guidance, assess needs, and evaluate concerns for each of their facilities and student residents. Provide guidance and supervision in regard to job performance.
  • Provide counseling, guidance, or other services regarding specific problem situations, such as roommate conflicts, individual student concerns, etc.
  • Provide direct, informal counseling to students with personal concerns where appropriate. Develop and carry out intervention strategies for various student needs. Act as a referral agent for areas of concern outside of housing, such as academics, counseling center, financial aid, etc.
  • Evaluate RAs/SRAs formally each semester.
  • Develop strategies and concepts that promote staff "team spirit" and effective work relationships. Plan and implement regular staff committees and involvements.
  • Supervise student staff participation in administrative processes, such as semester check-in, room inspections, surveys, etc.
  • Oversee the overall implementation of a budget of approximately $5,000.
Staff Training & Education
  • Work cooperatively with the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) team to support and promote the "Living-Learning" philosophy and concepts in the scope and functions of the RA/SRA position.
  • Provide individual guidance and consultation to RA/SRAs on how to respond to students' academic needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of pre-fall/spring training for RA/SRA staff.
Student Conduct & Crisis Management
  • Document, adjudicate, and input case information into Maxient software database regarding low-level student violations of University and HRL Policies, as directed.
  • Work cooperatively with the Counseling Center, Health Services, Campus Safety, Student Activities, First-Year Programs, and the Dean of Students Office to resolve student conflicts and crises.
Administration
  • Work cooperatively with HRL team to set and maintain quality standards for the total residential environment, with a major emphasis on "Living-Learning" concepts and promoting student success through positive residential experiences.
  • Serve on the Department of Housing and Residence Life emergency response on-call duty rotation.
  • Assist with coordination and implantation of HRL large scale and campus signature events such as the Halloween Carnival, Homecoming, Open House, Spring Preview, etc.
  • Provide support and guidance for departmental activities such as check-in/check-out, room inspection, etc. and assist with the implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Represent the HRL on various university committees, as assigned.
Staff Selection
  • Participate in RA/SRA/HRL student staff selection and recruitment efforts.
  • Support and assist with professional staff selection, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Student Development, Higher Education, or related field is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills are necessary.
  • Preference will be given to those with previous graduate or professional experience in Housing/Residence Life.
  • Candidate would be required to live on campus in a University provided apartment.
