Job summary

Indiana Institute of Technology is seeking an Area Coordinator for Residence Life in Fort Wayne to lead a learning-focused residential community. This live-in, 12-month role supports student development, engagement and retention through programming, supervision, and collaboration with campus partners.

You will manage RA staff, housing operations, and compliance with FERPA, Title IX, and campus policies while advancing strategic goals and a inclusive, academically supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Development or related field preferred.
• Competence in relational, interactive, and conflict mediation skills.
• Competence in administrative, teambuilding and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated consciousness of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate active support for Student Affairs and Residence Life initiatives.
• Cultivate a residential experience that promotes belonging, respect, academic success, and student retention.
• Assist residents in resolving interpersonal conflicts and navigating developmental challenges.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to students, promoting leadership and personal growth.
• Recruit, train, and supervise RA staff, providing consistent individual and team meetings focused on leadership, interpersonal skills, and team cohesion.
• Maintain professional and RA on-call rotation schedule.
• Provide ongoing training and development to enhance RA effectiveness.
• Develop and implement programming that supports community development and co-curricular learning.
• Oversee housing operations and StarRez across facilities.
• Coordinate room assignments, changes, check-in/check-out procedures, and maintain housing records.
• Conduct regular inspections of residential areas and report maintenance issues.
• Collaborate with Building & Grounds, Housekeeping, and Campus Safety to maintain safe living environments.
• Manage area budgets and support programming aligned with departmental learning outcomes.
• Maintain compliance with FERPA, hazing, and Title IX.
• Assist with summer housing needs.
• Assess departmental learning outcomes and contribute to improvement.
• Work with the Director to meet retention and occupancy goals.
• Collaborate with campus partners to inform students about procedures and available resources.
• Perform additional duties to support Residence Life and Student Affairs.
• Support the mission and strategic plan of Indiana Institute of Technology.
