Position Overview:
As a Residence Counselor, you will provide counseling, guidance, and advocacy to clients with behavioral health needs in a residential setting. You will play a key role in supporting individuals on their path toward greater independence and improved mental well-being. Demonstrate competency in delivering Motivational Interviewing (MI), effectively engaging individuals served through engagement, assessment, and intervention.
This position focuses on ensuring the safety, stability, and progress of adults with chronic mental illness living in a group home environment. You will work collaboratively with clients to implement individualized recovery plans, promote healthy living, and support the development of daily living skills. Residence Counselors are expected to maintain a structured, respectful, and therapeutic atmosphere 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in alignment with Level A+ care standards established by the New Jersey Department of Mental Health Services.
What does this position look like?
A Residence Counselor is responsible for maintaining progress and activity records, developing and implementing social, recreational, and educational activities, and providing on-site support services. Additional responsibilities include communicating client observations to the treatment team, assisting with transportation to community resources, and participating in team meetings and treatment planning.
