Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University invites applicants to join the Veterinary Team as a Licensed Veterinary Technician within the Division of Animal Resources. The role provides clinical and technical support for the veterinary care program, assisting staff veterinarians and researchers with procedures and daily animal health rounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Associate degree in Veterinary Technology required.
• Current Virginia Veterinary Technician license required.
• Knowledge of humane handling and recognizing signs of disease across species.
• Knowledge of administering medications, collecting diagnostic specimens, anesthesia, aseptic procedures and surgical support.
• Knowledge of radiography and basic lab diagnostics.
• Ability to train researchers and care staff.
• Strong communication and professionalism.
• Commitment to respect and civility in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and technical support for the veterinary care program.
• Assist staff veterinarians and researchers with surgical or medical procedures.
• Perform daily health rounds and monitor animals under care.
• Maintain animal health records and use health observation systems.
• Communicate care recommendations and follow-up actions to research staff.
• Participate in rotating anesthesia services and training sessions.
• Manage spaces like surgical suites and the pharmacy and logs.
• Support on-call weekend/holiday rotations as needed.
