Job summary

MCW in Milwaukee seeks a research assistant to support experimental design and data analysis for sponsored projects. You will carry out routine and complex experiments and assist in protocol development under supervision.

Responsibilities include maintaining cells, preparing media, monitoring inventory, and communicating results to the PI and team. Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; experience may substitute education on a 1:1 basis.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant laboratory or research experience.

  • Record and compile accurate records and summarize experimental results.
  • Help evaluate, interpret, and assess experimental data and QC of assays.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain specialized equipment used in research.

Job description

Summary

Under general direction carry out experimental design for sponsored research projects, including compilation and analysis of data generated.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Carry out routine and complex experiments.
  • Monitor inventory and order lab supplies; carry out assigned duties for ordering, maintaining supply of inventory.
  • Prepare media and maintain cells by various culturing in techniques.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
  • Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principle Investigator.
  • Assist in development and implementation of research protocols.
  • Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
  • Help evaluate, interpret, and assess experimental data and quality control of assays.
  • Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • Data utilization , complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
Qualifications
  • Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.
  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum Required Experience: 1 year
Physical Requirements
  • Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Work Environment
  • Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
Sensory Acuity
  • Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required . May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
