BSD MED - Hematology and Oncology - Olopade Research Staff

About The Department

The University of Chicago has a long tradition of excellence in cancer research and the environment is ideal for interdisciplinary training of the next generation of translational researchers in cancer. The University is committed to fostering the careers of the next generation of oncology researchers, who are poised to continue the tradition of excellence as through in a highly innovative research training program. Research Training in Oncology is supported through several training grants largely funded by the National Cancer Institute Cancer Training Branch and includes Institutional K12 (Paul Calabresi Scholars program), T32, R25 and a D43 held in partnership with the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

Job Summary

The Research Technologist will participate in multiple research studies focused on understanding of genetic and epigenetic contributions to breast cancer progression.

Responsibilities

  • Procures and processes biospecimens.
  • Maintains cell lines, handles primary cells, isolates derivative molecules and conducts biological assays.
  • Collects and organizes data.
  • Summarizes results, reviews scientific literature, helps in writing SOPs and presents progress to a wide audience.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Relevant research experience.

Technical Skills Or Knowledge:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Understand scientific literature, review and write SOPs, organize data and summarize results.
